2012 Cohutta 100

Saturday April 28, 2012 -- 7:00 AM Start

Friday April 27 -- 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM MANDATORY Check-in

Course change!  For 2012, the N.U.E. Cohutta 100 will have a re-vamped race course.  Carried over from previous years are the fantastic single track sections of the Tanasi trail system and the beautiful Cohutta Wilderness fire roads.

New for 2012 is the addition of the Pinhotti #2 single track section on the course's southern end.  In addition, the return route will backtrack to Tanasi along the same south-bound course, with the exception of a north-bound bypass on the Pinhotti South Fork section.

The new 100 mile race course offers an added challenge of about 2,000 feet of elevation gain over previous years.  The addition of single track on the course's southern end, however, will increase the excitement and enjoyment of the race and break up the mileage on fire roads.

Finally, after the usual Brush Creek, Bear Paw, Riverview sections, a little course re-arrangement takes the beginning of the race down Poplar Grove trail (formally named West Fork) and up fire road 45 to the re-located Aid Station #1 on SR 221.  Re-entry to the Tanasi trail system at the end of the race will not include the Poplar Grove (West Fork) climb but will shoot straight down Bypass trail, Chestnut, and Thunder Rock Express to finish the course.

AID STATIONS

The course map shows the new locations of each Aid Station.  Aid Station #1 will get passed once.  The other three will get passed twice for a total of 7 opportunities for aid.

Each racer is allowed three (3) one gallon drop bags that can be picked up and filled up on check-in day.  Check-in day is required to race and is on Friday, April 27th from 10AM to 10PM at the Ocoee White Water Center (Race Venue).  Aid Station #1 will not be a drop location -- no drop bags at Aid Station #1 (17 miles in).  The remaining 3 Aid Stations will all be drop bag locations.  This will allow the racers to access their drop bags twice per Aid Station -- once on the way out, and once on the way back.

Friday April 27 -- 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM MANDATORY Check-in

Update!  The Big Frog 65 race course will have a little change starting this year.  After the usual Brush Creek, Bear Paw, Riverview sections, a little course re-arrangement takes the race down Poplar Grove trail (formally named West Fork) and up fire road 45 to the re-located Aid Station #1 on SR 221.  Re-entry to the Tanasi trail system at the end of the race will not include the Poplar Grove (West Fork) climb but will shoot straight down Bypass trail, Chestnut, and Thunder Rock Express to finish the course.  Besides getting two passes of the Big Frog Aid Station, this race will pass the Cohutta 100 Aid Station #1 twice as well.  However, Big Frog 65 racers only have one drop bag which will be at Aid Station "65".
